(FORT MADISON, Iowa) The Iowa Department of Corrections reports a correctional officer was assaulted this (Wednesday) morning shortly before 8:30. The Officer, along with a second correctional officer was escorting an inmate who had been placed in restraints because of previous misconduct, when the inmate struck the officer in the face, using his head.
Authorities say additional officers were able to take control of the situation immediately. The officer was suffered a cut and was treated at Fort Madison Community Hospital, and released.
