Ceremony honors 32 Iowa workers who died last year

DES MOINES, Iowa-  Today (Friday) was the annual Workers Memorial Day ceremony outside the State Capitol. 

 “Workers' Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember Iowans who have died in Iowa's workplaces and serving in our military in the past year. This is also a day to reflect on the lives that were lost and to renew our commitment to workers safety and health in the workplace” said Iowa Labor Commissioner Michael Mauro.   

During calendar year 2017, 32 Iowans died from injuries sustained while working.  Four of the 32 were in Polk County, 77-year-old Dean Follon, 45-year-old Kenneth Glenn, 58-year-old Douglas McCauley, and 50-year-old James Santos.
