Iowa's Maddie Poppe wins on American Idol! VIDEOS

DES MOINES, Iowa - Maddie Poppe had the most interesting evening.

On the ABC-TV live "American Idol" show, she got to sing a duet with Kermit The Frog (Rainbow Connection). Then she found out that she and Caleb Lee Hutchinson were the top two.  

Then...right before 10pm, Maddie was told she is the winner.  

Fighting back tears and feeling the excitement of the moment, Maddie wasn't able to finish singing her sone "Going, Going, Gone at the finale...relying on all of the American Idol contestants this year to sing it for her. 

Governor Reynolds proclaimed Sunday, May 20th as Maddie Poppe Day in Iowa in honor of the young singer inspiring others to keep chasing their dreams.  Poppe is from Clarksville, Iowa, north of Waterloo.

Gabby Barrett and Caleb Hutchinson were the others in the top three at the beginning of the show.  All three sang three songs Sunday night during Part I of Idol's season finale.  Viewer votes were concluded Monday morning, and judges' votes were added to those totals during the Part II finale Monday night.
