(DES MOINES, Iowa) Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines is planning a 100-bed inpatient mental health hospital in Polk County.
The proposed facility would be next to Mercy West on NW 114th Street in Clive, and would serve children, teens and adults with acute behavioral health issues.
Mercy says treatment will focus on stabilizing patients, so they can transition to out-patient providers or a home environment. Pending approval, construction on the 73-thousand square foot, $5.5 million facility could begin next April.
"Expanding our facilities will give us the resources we need to develop superior clinical protocals and clinical programming customized to each patient's individual needs, ensuring the most acute patients are receiving the highest quality treatment possible, " said Mercy Behavioral Health Director, Dr. Sasha Khosravi.
Mercy has filed a Certificate of Need application with the state of Iowa, requesting approval of the project. The new hospital will be owned and operated through a joint venture created by Mercy and Universal Health Services, one of the largest health care management companies in the United States. UHS runs more than 300 behavioral health hosptials in the United States and the UK.
Hospital officials plan to have a community listening event about the project, June 12th, at 5:30 p.m.
