Two Ottumwa men charged in Friday police shootout

WAPELLO COUNTY, Iowa-  Two men are charged with six counts of attempted murder, after a shoot-out with Ottumwa Police Friday, August 3rd. 

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says 32-year-old Michael Bibby and Dalton Cook (pictured) are also charged with burglary and robbery.

Authorities say Bibby and Cook, both of Ottumwa, and a third man, David White of Fairfield,   broke into a home at 831 S. Lillian Street, intending to steel items.   Police say the three  ended up in a shoot-out with Ottumwa Police near Liberty Elementary school, where children were attending a summer program at the school.    

White was killed, Bibby was injured and Cook was caught after a manhunt that lasted several hours.    One person at the burglarized home was shot, but is expected to be okay.

Bond for Bibby and Cook is set at $800,000 cash only for each of them.
