Iowa State Fair's fishy favorite, always lures crowds

DES MOINES, Iowa-   The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Building will be busy once again during the Iowa State Fair.  A number of special programs and exhibits are planned, but the fish tanks remain one of the most popular attractions.

Ben Dodd with the DNR's Fisheries Bureau says they'll have about 20-species from streams, rivers, and lakes cross Iowa.  He says the gar may be the most unusual, because of it's long snout and teeth.

He says the largest fish in the tank include muskie, walleye, channel catfish and large mouth and small mouth bass.

Below is a picture of the space behind the fish tanks, where staff make sure the water temperature is cool, clean, and comfortable for the fish.
