Mercy-Des Moines dedicates new Psychiatry Residency clinic

DES MOINES, Iowa-  Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines has dedicated it's new Psychiatry Residency outpatient clinic.

It's a three-year residency program, with four physician residents in each class.  Mercy says the first class started July 1st, and the first four residents were chosen from 1,000 applicants.  Mercy says applications for the second class opened September 15th and have already exceeded 700.

Mercy says resident physicians could begin seeing discharged inpatients for follow-up care next year, and new patients in 2020.

Mercy says the goal is to improve access and reduce delays in receiving care.
