Man leads Polk County, Iowa deputies on chase

POLK COUNTY, Iowa-  Polk County deputies were involved in a chase Thursday night around 8 o'clock, in the 5000 block of NE 23rd Avenue.

Deputies tried to stop the driver of a Chevy Tahoe without valid plates, but the driver hit the gas and led deputies on a chase on University Avenue, until reaching a dead-end near 1900 Hull Avenue, where  33-year-old Scott Newman-Birch got of the vehicle and started running.  

Deputies arrested Newman-Birch after a short chase.   He's facing long list of charges, including:

Domestic Abuse Impeding Breathing/ Airway (DMPD Warrant)

Operating While Intoxicating First Offense

Arrest Without Warrant (Missouri Warrant)

Escape (Dept of Corrections Warrant)Driving While Barred

Work Release Violation (Dept of Corrections Warrant)

EludingFailure to Obey Stop Sign,Speeding

Newman-Birch is being held without bond at the Polk County Jail.
