Iowa Corrections: Inmate assaults officer at Clarinda

CLARINDA, Iowa-  The Iowa Department of Corrections reports an inmate assaulted an officer last (Monday) night at the Clarinda Correctional Facility.

The Iowa Department of Corrections reports the officer was performing routine duties, when he was confronted by an inmate just after 6:30 p.m.   There was a verbal exchange, then the inmate hit the officer with closed fists.    The Officer used pepper spray to gain control of the inmate, and other officers arrived to help.    The officer was treated and released from the hospital in Clarinda.  Names of those involved have not been released.
