One person shot in Des Moines gun battle

DES MOINES, Iowa-  A gunshot victim turned up at a Des Moines hospital today (Tuesday), after a gun battle on the city's near north side.   

Police were called to the 800 block of  Indiana Avenue around 2 o'clock because of gunfire.   Police stopped one car and took people into custody.    

Another vehicle that left the scene, dropped off a male gunshot victim at the Mercy ER.

The victims is expected to be okay.

Police say it appears at least two cars were involved.  

Sergeant Paul Parezik tells WHO Radio News it appears there were two groups  of teens involved in the incident.  He says when the shooting happened, people inside the nearby Evelyn Davis Center building hit the floor.  

He says at one point after the gunfire, someone called 9-1-1 and reported seeing a young man with a gun enter Mercy Hospital, which prompted a lockdown and search of the hospital, but no weapons were found.

 Police are still interviewing suspects and witnesses.
