DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines police arrested a man who they say was impersonating a cop on Saturday.

Police say 60-year-old Kent Arnold Smith followed a car full of teenage girls to a home on the 600 block of 35th Street, where he blocked the car in the driveway with his own.

Investigators say Smith tried to detain the driver, pretending he was an undercover officer, even offering a badge number.

The criminal complaint filed in the case says Smith “told the victim that his badge number was #699 and the police were on their way.”

The teen driver called 911 and Smith was arrested.  WHO-TV Channel 13 reports Smith's bonded out of jail and faces arraignment in February.
