Murder charge filed in death of Des Moines homeless man

DES MOINES, Iowa-   A local man is now charged with murder, accused of hitting and killing a homeless man while driving a stolen car earlier this month.

The man hit by the car, 69-year-old Charles Childs was found dead at a homeless camp in the 1600 block of East Madison,  two days after police believe he was hit.   

 Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parezik tells WHO Radio News 21-year-old Doneterius Jamar Bomar is now charged with First Degree Murder.  

 Investigators believe Bomar intentionally hit Childs.   

Bomar had been in jail on other charges.  He was released January 8th, but was soon charged with new crimes.  He was accused of  beating a man with a large rock and stealing his car.   Police say that car is what struck the homeless man.
