Man accused of trying to hiring hitman to kill Iowa professor

LINN COUNTY, Iowa-  A Cedar Rapids man is accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill a University of Iowa medical professor.   

Authorities say they began investigating 35-year-old Steven Arce in November of 2018. 

They say an informant was used to gather information in the case.  Authorities say during a recorded conversation, Arce is heard talking about removing serial numbers off a gun and using it to kill a professor.

Arce remains in custody in the Linn County Jail.
