A man is dead and a child hospitalized after an accident Sunday afternoon.

Des Moines Police say a car was traveling westbound on Grand Avenue, lost control and left the street.  It hit a concrete wall and then went airborne, crashing onto the parking lot.

It happened in the parking lot located in the 2600 block of Grand and Ingersoll around 12:15pm Sunday.

The man's been identified as 32 year old Grant Stokka.  His 8 year old son was hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries.

Police are still looking for people who have witnessed the crash as they try to find out what caused Stokka to veer off Grand Avenue and hit the concrete wall. Officers are investigating if another vehicle turned onto Grand Avenue and caused Stokka to veer off.
