High wind, blowing and drifting snow in Iowa this afternoon MAPS

National Weather Service Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa - It'll be a windy ride home all across Iowa today, but in the much of the state that got several inches of snow overnight into today, blowing and drifting will be a problem, even white out conditions are possible at times.

Northwest winds will increase substantially, with gusts to 35 mph or higher possible at times this afternoon and into the early evening. This will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow, prolonging travel impacts across Iowa as visibility remains low and snow blows back over roads.

Meterologists at the National Weather Service office in Des Moines encourage drivers to take appropriate precautions if planning to travel.
