Fire destroys Des Moines home early Wednesday morning

WHO-TV

DES MOINES - Fire crews are trying to figure out if residents of a house that caught fire early this morning were home when that fire began.

A Polk County Sherrif's Deputy arrived at the house in the 5600 block of NW 1st Street at 4:30 a.m. and saw flames coming from the house.

Lt. Heath Osberg with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office says there are several people who live at the home but investigators don't know if anyone was home at the time of the fire, and they're trying to contact the owners of the property.

WHO Channel 13 reports fire crews from Saylor Township, Ankeny, Johnston, and Delaware Township were all called out to help put out the flames.

Firefighters had most of the flames knocked down by 6:20 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
