Nevada, Iowa man sentenced in anthrax hoax

DES MOINES, Iowa- A Nevada, Iowa man, who admitted sending white powder to a Nevada teacher in March of 2018 has been sentenced to 18-months in prison.

Authorities say 67-year-old Mondell Olson included a note with the powder, stating it was anthrax.

An investigation found the powder was not toxic. Olson was charged for false information and hoaxes. He's been ordered to serve three years of supervised released after his prison time.

Olson was previously convicted of harassment in Story County for leaving threatening voice mails at Nevada High School and a student.

Olson was sentenced by United States District Court Senior Judge Robert W. Pratt, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.
