California Police Identify 9-Year-Old Found in Duffel Bag

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's office has identified the girl whose body was discovered stuffed inside a duffel bag near a horse trail in Hacienda Heights last week.

In a release Monday, the Sheriff's office said that thanks to a slew of tips received from the public, investigators were able to identify the deceased child as 9-year-old Trinity Love Jones. While the Coroner's Office determined that the 9-year-old's death was a homicide, investigators haven't released the cause of death.

Two persons of interest have been detained in the death of the 9-year-old. Investigators have not released any information about them yet.

The girl's boy was discovered inside a roll-away black duffel bag last week in the area of Hacienda Boulevard and Glenmark Drive, near a Buddhist temple, police said.

Family members created a memorial for Jones at the site where she was discovered. Candles, flowers, stuffed animals and photos were set up near where the girl's body was found.

“Words can't explain what I'm feeling right now,” Anthony Jones, Trinity's father, said at the memorial site. “I just want answers. I just want justice. She was just the best -- full of character, full of life, full of joy.”

Jones' body was discovered last Tuesday by County Workers clearing away brush adjacent to the equestrian trail. The 9-year-old was found "partially inside a black roll-away duffel bag" with her head and upper body protruding out from the partially zipped bag. An autopsy conducted last week determined that the girl was between 8 and 13-years-old and weight about 55 pounds.

Investigators aren't sure whether Jones was alive or dead when she was stuffed inside the bag and left behind.

“The motive at this time is unknown,” Lt. Scott Hoglund told reporters.
