Iowa turkey hunter captures black bear on video near Decorah

DECORAH, Iowa- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is confirming a black bear in Decorah in northeast Iowa.

The bear was spotted last weekend by Zach Anderson, who had been turkey hunting when he saw it.

DNR wildlife experts say it could be the same bear, seen in Winneshiek County for the last three years.

Typically bears that end up in Iowa have wandered in from southeast Minnesota or southwest Wisconsin.

The DNR says there have been two other confirmed sightings of bears this month, one in Delaware County and another in Fayette County. The DNR does not believe those sightings were of the same bear spotted in Winneshiek County.

Black bears are not a protected species in Iowa but the DNR encourages anyone who might come across one to leave it alone and give it space.
