World Gone Mad: Man Approaches Cathedral With Gas Cans

Copy-cat crimes can make a person think that the world's gone mad. In my show today, I'll be discussing how law enforcement is forced to deal with an increased level of threat around the anniversary of the Columbine shooting. The discussion follows up on the death of a woman accused of threatening several schools, including Columbine.

And there's this story.

Someone apparently got a bad idea from watching a famed cathedral burn this week.

A New Jersey man is in custody after police say he tried to walk into St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City with two gas cans. Authorities say security saw the suspect heading inside the Midtown church yesterday and stopped him. The unnamed man also is said to have had two bottles of lighter fluid, and two lighters on him and before being turned around, spilled gas on an officer.

At the beginning of the incident the guy told officers he ran out of gas and was cutting through the church to get gas on another street. Officers noted the vehicle had gas.

The NYPD Critical Response Command made the arrest. Police believe the man is emotionally disturbed. The incident came just days after Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral was devastated by a massive blaze. The NYPD says that fire was the reason there were additional officers in the area.
