DES MOINES, Iowa- Des Moines Blank Park Zoo officials are sharing video of their newborn baby black rhino getting her first bath.
Zoo keepers say since rhinos have sensitive skin, the skin must stay moisturized. Typically, rhinos like to wallow in the mud, which serves as a moisturizer, sunscreen and insect repellent.
Since the mother rhino, "Ayana" and her calf are spending some quality time indoors bonding, keepers decided to give them a bath and apply a moisturizer to their skin as an alternative.
The Blank Park Zoo is accepting names for the calf, in a fundraiser. More information can be found at www.blankparkzoo.com.
