Des Moines sculpture park celebrates 10-year anniversary

DES MOINES, Iowa - It's almost time to celebrate at the Des Moines Art Center as John and Mary Pappajohn Park turns 10 years old this year.

"We are really excited to celebrate the 10th anniversary. We're going to have music, we're going to have food trucks, a kids zone, there will be guided tours, all sorts of fun things," said Des Moines Art Center Director of Marketing Jordan Powers.

The highlight of the celebration will be an event called "Sculpting Our Community," which will showcase artwork of all ages.

"We are looking for people to send photos only. Those photos will be what is in the exhibition, so it is a way for people to really get creative with the size and the medium that they are creating in and making their art in, but it gives us a consistent medium to display that exhibition on site," said Powers.

Paintings, drawings, photos and sculptures can be submitted now through August 1st.

The anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, September 7th.
