Former state employee wins lawsuit against former Iowa Governor

NEWTON, Iowa - Former Iowa governor Terry Branstad and the state of Iowa have lost a $1.5 million sexual orientation discrimination lawsuit.

The attorney for former Workers Compensation Commissioner Chris Godfrey says his salary was cut by $40,000 per year before filing a lawsuit in 2012.

WHO Channel 13 reports Iowa paid a private law firm for its defense and Godfrey's attorney, Roxanne Conlin, says it will also pay her fees as a result of the decision.

There is no word on whether or not the state of Iowa will appeal.
