DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa Department of Public Health says the state is now among those where respiratory illnesses have been linked to the use of vaping and e-cigarette products.
"We've now had four cases reported to us. These are young adults in their early- to mid-20s from across Iowa who are reporting vaping prior to becoming ill with respiratory illnesses."
Public Health Medical Director Caitlin Pedati says the department wants people who vape and have come down with unexplained respiratory illnesses to tell their doctors. She says they also want to hear from the doctors of those patients.
Pedati says they don't yet know what specifically in the vaping products is making people sick. She says vaping-related illnesses have been reported in several states.
