DES MOINES, Iowa -- With the arrival of the college football season, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is starting to get some early clues about how sports betting is being received.
"When numbers are published after the 15th of this month, I would anticipate that we'll have good numbers, but I think it will not reflect what the market will look like when it is mature."
Commission spokesman Brian Ohorilko says casino operators say many of the sports bets tha have been places are on future events with future payoffs.
Fourteen Iowa casinos have gone live with sports betting, and Ohorilko says they're pleased at how the operations are going. He says five Iowa casinos have yet to begin their sports betting operations.
