Federal Government Avoids Shutdown...Oh, You Didn't Know?

I asked Senator Joni Ernst this week if all the impeachment talk with keeping Congress from getting work done. She did said it was an obstacle and brought up the fact that the government was facing another shutdown. Update: after her remarks on my show, Congress avoided the shutdown.

I wanted to let you know since you probably hadn't heard.

A bill aimed at averting a government shutdown is headed to Trump's desk after final passage by the Senate. The Senate easily passed a short-term spending bill that funds the government through November 21st. The vote was 82-15.

The government runs out of money at the end of this month and Congress had until Monday to get the bill passed. It includes requiring the Department of Agriculture to hand over state-by-state data about the effects of the trade war.

The short-term spending bill gives House and Senate negotiators more time to hammer out the details of a two-year budget deal that was recently negotiated by congressional leaders and the White House.
