DES MOINES, Iowa - Some people in Iowa are getting Blizzard Warning and Red Flag Fire Warning text messages.
These appear to be test emergency text messages coming from the Wireless Emergency Notification System and have the NOAA logo (see screenshot below), asking radio and TV stations to run a test Emergency Alert, those emergency messages you hear with the tones in emergencies.
The National Weather Service tells our newsroom that these messages were sent out by mistake by Alert Iowa, a warning system run by the State of Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management office.
