Flash Flood risk up in Western Iowa, Eastern Nebraska MAPS

DES MOINES, Iowa - The National Weather Service is briefing Iowa emergency managers about the increased risk of flash flooding this week (more maps below).

Moderate to heavy rain is possible tonight through Wednesday that may lead to flash flooding.

In Iowa, the heaviest rain is likely northwest of Des Moines, with Flash Flood risk just west of Des Moines from Waukee through Western and Southwestern Iowa into

NEBRASKA

In Nebraska, the heaviest rain is targeted from about Omaha to the north, with the greatest risk of Flash Flooding from Omaha into Southeastern Nebraska.

Flash Flood Warning

Note that a Flash Flood Warning is a life-threatening weather situation that can suddenly send rushing water over roads. Only six inches of flood water can wash a car off the road, and just a couple of inches can sweep a person off their feet into the floodwaters. 

A Flash Flood is not the same as a Flood Warning which reports a rising river or stream, usually over several days.
