Man charged with attempted murder, cops may have been shot by other cops

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Stuart, Iowa man faces attempted murder charges a shooting that wounded two sheriff's deputies.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Randall Comly, 52, is charged with two counts of attempted murder for shooting at Guthrie County deputies Steven Henry and Jim Mink as they tried to serve an arrest warrant last week in Stuart.

The DCI also says a preliminary investigation suggests the gunfire that hit the deputies may have been fired by law enforcement officers as they returned fire on Comly.

They say ballistic testing of the bullets that hit the deputies is pending, and an investigation into exactly who fired them is part of the ongoing investigation. The DCI says it may take several weeks before a definitive answer is reached.

Comly was shot in the arm in the exchange of gunfire with police. He's in the Clarke County Jail.
