JOHNSTON, Iowa -- As it stands now, October 2019 is the second-wettest on record in Des Moines.
"We're sitting a 7.25 inches. The record is 7.29, so we're darn close at this point" says National Weather Service Meteorologist Allan Curtis.
He says our chances aren't very good of breaking the record for rainiest October, set back in 1941.
"Into the weekend, we're not looking at much in the way of rain potential. We're probably looking at early next week as our one real good shot at breaking the record" Curtis says.
He says it's going to be chilly and dry--at least through the weekend with overnight low temperatures back below freezing by Thursday night.
