AMES, Iowa -- The City of Ames Power Plant will be down for a few weeks longer then planned.
The city says there's a hold-up in getting some critical parts needed to get the garbage-burning plant up and running.
"What this does is just sets us behind a little bit. We were hoping the unit would be burning garbage by December 9th, and with this delay in materials we're now shooting for some time closer to Christmas" says Ames Electric Services Director Don Kom.
He says they want residents to continue recycling and composting--all in an effort to reduce the amount of garbage that's now going to area landfills.
For several weeks, Ames are waste haulers have been trucking garbage to local landfills rather than processing the garbage to produce fuel for the Power Plant.
