Teacher creates winter wonderland for Nebraska school kids VIDEO

CULBERTSON, Nebraska - A Nebraska teacher has created a winter wonderland at the elementary school where she teaches to give the students some of the magic of Christmas.

"We're a high poverty school, and I had some kids talk about how they've never had a Christmas tree at their house." Jennifer Baker tells KFAB Radio News.

"It kind of broke my heart, so I decided that they would have a Christmas at school, they would have the magic of Christmas, at least when they got here, every day." She said.

Baker teaches at Hitchcock County Elementary School in Culbertson, in far Western Nebraska. She says a video of the winter wonderland is bringing email and comments from around the world.

The centerpiece is a child-size igloo made of plastic milk jugs.

"The milk jugs do not look like milk jugs anymore." Baker says. "They look like blocks of ice with lit up, beautiful icicles on them. Got lots of big blue lights all over it. It looks pretty cool."

Up to eight children at a time can sit inside the igloo. It's a favorite for reading time.
