Nebraska, SW Iowa top flu outbreak nationwide

OMAHA, Nebraska - A new report puts Omaha, Nebraska as ground zero for the flu outbreak right now in the U.S.

The Walgreens Flu Index ranks Omaha and Nebraska as the top city and state for flu activity based on cases of people being treated with antiviral prescriptions.

Nebraska is the only Midwest state with high flu activity, but according to the flu index, nearby Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota are catching up.

Travel time are high now around the holidays and health officials say it is more important than ever to take preventative measures from catching or spreading the flu. They add the best way to prevent the flu is by getting the annual flu shot.
