Motorcyclist crawls off I-80 with broken bones after Iowa hit and run

DES MOINES, Iowa - A man was forced to crawl off Interstate 80 in Iowa with multiple broken bones after he was hit from behind and left lying on the highway.

The Iowa State Patrol reports the crash was just east of Des Moines, near Altoona late on Thursday night, and so far, they have no suspects.

They're hoping someone may have witnessed the crash and will call with more information.

The victim, J.T. Wernimont of Altoona will be out of work for some time because of the injuries.

His father, Brian Wernimont tells WHO-TV 13 he believes the suspect was distracted.

"He was riding a fairly new motorcycle that has LED lights. I can't imagine that if somebody was paying attention that they would not see him," said Brian Wernimont.
