Omaha Man Accused Of Firing Shots At Iowa State Trooper In Sioux City

An Omaha man has been arrested after Iowa State Patrol officials say he fired two shots at a trooper on Thursday.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the gunman as 27 year old Anthony Walls. During a news conference, Trooper John Farley said a trooper pulled over a vehicle for an equipment violation. During the traffic stop the trooper found that Walls, a passenger in the vehicle, had an active warrant out for his arrest for domestic assault on a pregnant woman.

Farley says Walls resisted arrest and the trooper deployed a taser. One of the barbs hit Walls but he was able to recover and take off on foot.

Farley says Walls fired two shots at the trooper while escaping, but the trooper was not hit. Investigators say the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene with the vehicle and was detained, but not arrested.

Farley says Walls fled into the wooded area northeast of the water treatment plant. Sioux City Police officers arrived and began setting up a perimeter. Walls was eventually located and arrested.
