Iowa lawmakers discuss priorities at forum before upcoming session

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa lawmakers held an annual forum Tuesday where both Republicans and Democrats agreed on bipartisan priorities such as child care and workforce development.

Republican expressed interest in deepening tax cuts once their sweeping 2018 tax reform is fully implemented.

Democrats said the focus should instead be on properly funding the government and improving public education.

WHO-TV reports Republican Governor Kim Reynolds wants more criminal justice reform, including a Constitutional amendment to automatically restore convicted felons' voting rights after they serve their time.

Republicans hold majorities in both legislative Houses.

The 2020 legislative session kicks-off Monday.
