Iowa Supreme Court Justice Wiggins to retire

DES MOINES, Iowa -- There's going to be another vacancy on Iowa's highest court.

Acting Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice David Wiggins announced Friday he'll leave the bench on March 13th.

Wiggins was was appointed to the Iowa Supreme Court in 2003.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds named Wiggins Acting Chief Justice last November when then-Chief Justice Mark Cady died.

In a statement, Reynolds says:

"Justice David Wiggins has been a dedicated public servant for the last 17 years and has ably led the court through a difficult time after the passing of Chief Justice Cady. Justice Wiggins has been a distinguished and active member of the legal community, and I wish him well on his retirement.”

Under Iowa law, Wiggins' replacement will be appointed by the Governor from a list of three nominees submitted by the State Judicial Nominating Commission.

That commission this week named three the finalists to fill Justice Cady's vacancy.
