Seven dogs abandoned during deep freeze now at Iowa shelters

POCAHONTAS, Iowa - The Boone Area Humane Society says it's rescued seven dogs that were left abandoned in a house in Pocahontas for over a week with no food, water or heat.

Boone Area says it responded to a call for help, despite the home being outside its service area.

The shelter says its caring for four of the dogs while the Calhoun County Canine Shelter is looking after the other three.

Any medical issues the dogs might have are not yet known.

The Boone society says the dogs will not be ready for adoption until they're healthy.
