Vehicular homicide charge in deadly Polk County crash

POLK COUNTY, Iowa - A Polk City man is now charged with homicide by vehicle after a crash that killed a man in November.

The charges follow an investigation into a crash just north of Ankeny that killed 55-year-old Tracy Gugger.

Lieutenant Heath Osberg with the Polk County Sheriff's Office says the charges are the result of carefully followed investigative procedures.

"An accident re-constructionist will come out to the scene and take a series of measurements, whether that's weather conditions, road conditions, drag marks, skids," said Osberg. "They will also take information from the vehicles"

An investigation found 51-year-old Aaron Lehman was driving 20 miles over the speed limit while using his phone when he slammed into a car Gugger was riding in.

Lehman was booked into the Polk County Jail Wednesday and posted bond shortly after.
