Des Moines Police; Man attacked cops before they shot him

DES MOINES, Iowa - A man is seriously hurt from an officer-involved shooting near the Iowa State Capitol building.

Police say they were called to the 14-hundred block of Capitol Avenue after a female caller reported that a male adult had threatened her life.

Upon their arrival, the man became violent, attacking the officers.

Officers say efforts to stop the attack on them and bring the suspect into custody were met with increasing violent resistance.

A 32 year veteran officer fired his pistol during the altercation, hitting the 34-year-old suspect.

The suspect was injured in the arm and the torso, and underwent surgery at a Des Moines hospital. He is in serious condition.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation of this incident.
