Bill to Clarify Prison Life Sentence Moving in Iowa Legislature

DES MOINES, Iowa - A bill that would make sure Iowa prisoners serve their full life sentence is making its way through the state house.

A House Judiciary subcommittee passed the bill Thursday, sending it to the full committee.

The bill would make it to where anyone sentenced to life in prison stays there for the rest of their natural life, even if they were to briefly die and be brought back to life.

The bill was written in response to a man serving a life sentence in Iowa who's heart stopped during a medical procedure in 2015.

He was brought back to life, then claimed his sentence had been served.
