SIOUX CITY, Iowa - A man who threw a cup of water on Iowa Republican Representative Steve King has been given two years probation by a federal judge.

Twenty-seven year-old Blake Gibbons of Lafayette, Colorado was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to one count of assaulting a member of Congress, which is a misdemeanor.

Gibbons threw a cup of water at King, who was eating at a restaurant in Fort Dodge in March of 2019.

The Sioux City Journal reports Gibbons' attorney said Gibbons would send an apology letter to King.

A GoFundMe site was set up in March, 2019 to help Gibbons with his legal fees in the case. It's raised roughly $5,600.

Thursday's hearing for Gibbon's sentencing took place at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa in Sioux City.
