West Des Moines Schools Announces Closure Through April 13th

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - West Des Moines Community Schools has announced it'll be closed until at least Monday, April 13.

The district says it 'll provide additional updates it is unable to resume school at that time.

The district doesn't think students will have to make up any time during the extended closure because Governor Reynolds is signing legislation waiving the instructional time requirement for the days missed.

The governor has also requested the authority to extend the waiver, if needed.

West Des Moines schools says its not known how the closure will affect graduation requirements and state requirements for students to move to the next grade level.

The district has cancelled all extra-curricular activities and athletic practices, but is offering some community events online.

West Des Moines Community Schools says its Nutrition Services will begin serving “grab-and-go” meals starting Monday, March 23, at six of its sites.
