Central, Southern Iowa face enhanced risk for severe weather Thursday

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Central and Southern Iowa could see some severe weather Thursday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service says what will be a fast-moving storm system brings an enhanced risk of severe weather including strong winds in excess of 50 miles an hour, heavy rain, hail, and tornadoes through Thursday evening.

The Weather Service says that heavy rainfall could lead to river flooding or even some localized flash flooding.

That storm system could be followed by a brief return to winter late Thursday night into early Friday morning. The Weather Service says temperatures could drop back below freezing overnight with single-digit wind chills.
