Iowa Dept. of Public Safety Says It'll Enforce New Closures

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa departments of Public Safety and Health have issued a statement clarifying the enforcement of Governor Reynolds' emergency proclamation from Tuesday.

The departments say officers can arrest people for violating the order in the interest of the public. The statement says law enforcement has a duty to enforce lawful public health orders.

Governor Reynolds' Tuesday proclamation ordered all restaurants and bars to close down, except in the case of drive-thru, take-out and delivery services.

It further ordered closure of all health clubs and gyms, theaters and live venues, casinos and adult day care and senior service centers.

It also prohibits gatherings of more than 10 people, including for parades, festivals, conventions, and fundraisers. Many churches and religious groups have suspended their services.

The governor's emergency proclamation is in effect until March 31st.
