Nebraska Governor Orders All Schools To Stay Closed Through May

School children in Nebraska won't be returning to the classroom this school year.

A Directed Health Measure (DHM) from Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts released late Wednesday night orders all schools in Nebraska to continue operating without students in the building through May 31st. This restriction does not apply to school staff working in school buildings. Under the DHM, all extracurricular activities have also been canceled.

The State’s eighth COVID-19 related DHM also includes Antelope, Arthur, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Hooker, Keya Paha, Knox, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Pierce, Rock, and Thomas counties. The DHM is in effect until May 11th, unless renewed.

The DHM imposes an enforceable limit on public gatherings to no more than ten people. It also requires restaurants and bars in these areas to close their dining areas immediately and move to takeout, delivery, and/or curbside service only until further notice.

Additionally, elective medical and dental procedures and surgeries have been cancelled in these counties.

State-issued DHMs now apply to 56 counties in Nebraska.
