Body Found in Pleasant Hill Identified as Man Who Jumped Into River

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa - Police say a body found in the Des Moines River near the Highway 65 bypass in Pleasant Hill has been identified as a man reported to have jumped off a bridge in February.

A relative of 30-year-old Jovanie Serrano had tracked a cell phone to the river bridge after a call indicated Serrano was suicidal and had jumped into the river.

A search crew found a jacket thought to be worn by Serrano on the banks of the river in February, but no body.

Thursday, Pleasant Hill Police were called to investigate a body found along the Des Moines River by Vandalia Road. Police investigators and the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office have identified the body as Jovanie Serrano.

An autopsy is scheduled and an investigation is ongoing over the death.
