Iowa Food Bank Urging People to Take Advantage of its Resources

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Food Bank of Iowa is urging people in need to use its what it has to offer.

Food Bank CEO Michelle Book says people are worried as they try to navigate unfamiliar territory, and is urging them to take advantage of food bank resources.

She's directing people to the food bank's website for information to sign up for food assistance and get a complete listing of food pantries and distribution sites.

The Food Bank of Iowa normally supplies 1.5 million pounds of food to 175,000 Iowans every month. Those number have risen sharply since the COVID-19 outbreak began. Governor Kim Reynolds has said the number of people applying for food assistance has increased 65 percent.

The food bank says it exists "to help at times like this" It's also asking for donations from people are able to do so.
