Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival canceled for the first time since 2008

One of the biggest summer events in Cedar Rapids will not take place in 2020.

The Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival has been canceled for this year. Organizers made the decision in the light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The last time the festival had any events canceled was due to historic flooding that hit Cedar Rapids in 2008. That year some events were moved to Labor Day weekend, such as the fireworks show.

The festival hopes to hold some virtual events this year. The festival is scheduled to return in 2021.
