Columbus Junction Tyson Plant to Reopen in Limited Capacity

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - The Tyson Foods plant in Columbus Junction will be reopening on Tuesday in a limited capacity.

Tyson says the plant will reopen after stopping operations for two weeks, starting on April 6th.

The company confirmed on April 15th that two workers at the plant had died from COVID-19 while 148 tested positive. The Columbus Junction plant is the only Tyson plant to have shut down due to the coronavirus. Governor Kim Reynolds said Monday that no meat processing plants would be closed down by the state because it would devastate the food supply chain and the cost of food.

There have been COVID-19 outbreaks at five meat processing plants in Iowa - in Columbus Junction, Eagle Grove, Perry, Tama, and Waterloo. Tyson Foods operates the plants in Columbus Junction, Waterloo and Perry.
